I- INTERIOR RULES AND REGULATIONS
1 - Institution's Organization
The Father Superior is the head of the institution. Holding this position at
A.I.S., he represents the Maronite Antonine Order who is the titular and the
patron of the institution. He is the link between the Order and the
institution. He is personally and directly responsible of the A.I.S. towards
the Order and the Church's instances, additionally, he is the A.I.S. accredited
interlocutor. With the zeal, the affection and the abnegation of the
Paterfamilias, he watches over the A.I.S., its staff, activities and premises.
He takes to heart the promotion of the institution's life, development and good
order through all possible means.
The Father Director is responsible for the third party, the official instances
and the public authorities legitimately appointed. He watches over the
grounding, the efficiency, and the performance of teachers as well as all the
staff related at the A.I.S. The Director is responsible for the general
functioning of the institution and its different components from the two
didactic aspects, the administrative and the pedagogical ones. He watches over
the coordination between the A.I.S. different activities. He has the exclusive
right to sign and authenticate formalities, attestations, official acts and
general correspondence. He supervises as well the verbal reports' editing. With
great discretion, he detains lawfully the A.I.S. archives as well as the
students and staff files. He is the A.I.S. accredited speaker with the media.
The Director has to insure a constant permanence at his post and should be
constantly located and accessible. He reports to the Father Superior the state
of his activities at least once at the end of each month.
The Father Director fulfills his responsibilities thanks to the collaboration
of competent and efficient staff members.
He is assisted by the heads of the various departments as well as the following
boards and committees:
- The Administration Board.
- The Management Board.
- The Discipline Board.
- The coordinators and the teachers.
While teachers delve constantly for the common good and the social values, they
commit themselves to forging free and strong characters, in addition to being
respectful and correct. Discipline, rules' observance, group discussions,
exchanges, solidarity movements, as well as the welcoming spirit that we strive
to instigate throughout the school, are all factors facilitating the teacher's
endeavor.
The A.I.S. is a Christian inspired institution and it declares publicly its
commitment to the values promoted by the Bible. This commitment enables the
A.I.S. to be fully ready to welcome any child, offering him/her equal love,
without any social and religious discrimination. The A.I.S. doesn't encourage
religious indifference, racism, violence, anarchy, fanaticism, fundamentalism …
On the contrary; it strives to offer to students, in a piety, authentic and
serene atmosphere, a healthy, profound and vigorous education.
2 - New students' Enrollment
New Students are registered at the Preschool Section at the age of:
• Pre-nursery : 2 years
• Nursery : 3 years
• KG1 : 4 years
• KG2 : 5 years
• Grade 1 : 6 years
Students must provide the following documents:
• Medical and complete immunization records
• Health certificate from the child's pediatrician
• Health register
New students are admitted if they pass the entrance exams with an average of
12/20 in the main subject-matters.
3 - Class councils, report cards
and grades reading
3.1 The Director heads the classes' councils, in presence of the Departments'
Heads as well as the teachers to evaluate students' results. Those councils
take place whenever it's deemed necessary. Congratulations, encouragements or
warnings are decided upon during the classes' councils and have the same value
of a private letter.
3.2 The date of grades' reading is scheduled by the Departments' Heads prior to
the report cards' signature done by the parents.
3.3 The exams' results could be communicated publicly (within 48 hours) before
being sent home for parents' signature.
3.4 Administration and teachers' observations and notes will be included in the
report cards.
3.5 Following the corrections and the classes' councils, report cards will be
available on the school's website for checking by subscribed parents.
4 - Delays and absences
School opening hours:
Nursery / KG1/ KG2 : Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:40 p.m.
Grades 1 to 9 : Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Buses' departure schedule:
Nursery / KG1 / KG2 1:50 p.m.
Grades 1 to 9 3:10 p.m
4.1 Due to insurance purposes, the school is not responsible for students
present in its premises before 7:30 a.m. and after 3:00 p.m. unless authorized
by the Father Director.
4.2 Once the classes start in the morning, only students who present to the
teacher an admission slip duly signed by the head of department or the
supervisor will access their classrooms.
4.3 Disregarding the time or the length of the delay, students are required to
provide a motive that shall be evaluated by the competent authority for an
eventual measure.
4.4 If a student is prevented, for a serious reason, from being present at
school during regular hours, his/her parents must inform the Administration
preferably before 9:00 a.m.
4.5 Unjustified absences from quizzes, evaluations, supervised class-work or
exams, are graded with a "zero".
4.6 An absent student, whatever might be the reason, will not be readmitted in
school without a written and signed justification from his/her parents. For
absences that exceed three days, a medical report duly signed by a physician is
required.
4.7 Medical, dental or other appointments should be scheduled after school
hours. If an appointment is unavoidable, kindly inform the administration by a
written note, 24 hours ahead of time.
4.8 Family/personal vacations should not cause students' absences. If such
absences are necessary, please notify the Administration 2 weeks prior to the
vacation.
4.9 Students who are absent are responsible for making up missed work. They
will be provided with remedial reasonable support. However, teachers cannot be
held accountable for making up missed activities and discussions.
5 - Dress code
Wearing the A.I.S. uniform is mandatory.
5.1 Preschool Section:
The uniform consists of:
- Nursery/KG1: wearing the apron is mandatory.
- KG2:
Winter:
- Blue oxford shirt
- School's jeans pants with the school's logo embroidered on the back pocket
- Dark-blue jumpers with yellow stripes on the collar and the sleeves
- Dark-blue or black shoes or boots
Summer:
- Yellow polo shirt
- Bermuda shorts for boys and divided skirts for girls
- Black or dark-blue shoes
- Yellow or white socks
- School's cap or hat - yellow/blue
All students should wear proper non-eccentric garments (trinkets, showy
jewelry, nail polish, hair dyeing or high-lighting are strictly forbidden).
During Physical Education classes, the school sport uniform is mandatory.
The sports uniform consists of the following items:
Winter: - Jogging suit - blue/grey
Summer: - Shorts and T-shirt - blue/grey
Tennis shoes are only allowed on Physical Education pre-assigned days for
hygienic purposes.
Tennis shoes are not subject to color restriction.
5.2 Primary Section :
The uniform consists of:
Winter:
- Blue oxford shirt
- School's jeans pants with the school's logo embroidered on the back pocket
- Dark-blue jumpers with yellow stripes on the collar and the sleeves
- Dark-blue or black shoes or boots
Summer:
- Yellow polo shirt

6 - Circulation and Transport
Service
6.1 Private cars can't circulate on school grounds. Cars are bounded to dropping-off
and picking-up students in assigned parking lots only.
6.2 A school bus service is provided for the transportation of students upon
request. This service is optional.
6.3 Students, who are already registered in the bus service and would like to
withdraw, should inform in writing the transport service department prior to
July 30. Subsequent to that date, they will be considered as registered and
must settle the first semester subscription fee.
6.4 Buses follow fixed itineraries and schedules since the beginning of the
school year. Parents will be informed on time about the bus' number that will
transport their child (ren).
6.5 Students that are subscribed to this service are picked up from home or a
nearby location. Nevertheless, and due to traffic requirements or bad roads'
conditions, students might be grouped and picked up collectively at preset "
meeting points " in order to activate the circulation.
6.6 Parents are urged to have an adult waiting to pick up the child (ren) on
time.
6.7 School bus riders are not allowed to change their usual bus without the
administration's authorization. Lack of discipline in the bus can lead to
exclusion from the school's transportation service, from one or several days,
to permanent expulsion.
6.8 Bus riders must present a note duly signed by their parents, before being
authorized by persons in charge or supervisors to leave school by private
means, or to get off the bus at a different station than their regular one.
7 - Sanctions
7.1 The teacher is entitled to require from an undisciplined or negligent
student, oral or written work that shall constitute an additional homework
followed personally by the teacher.
The teacher must consent with the department's head about the sanction and the
modality of its application.
7.2 The notification of additional homework (by letter or on the diary) must be
signed by the parents.
7.3 If the student seriously breaches the school's rules and is considered
liable to a sanction that is beyond the teacher or the supervisor's
attributions, the department's head must be informed in order to take adequate
measures.
7.4 The department's head notifies the student's parents of any discipline
infringement or regular negligence in his/her work, by means of a warning notice
that must be signed by parents and returned to the administration the next
school day.
7.5 Whenever the above-mentioned measures prove to be vain, the director is
entitled to expel from school a student for one or three days. Access to school
grounds is prohibited for students during their expulsion.
7.6 Only the Section's Disciplinary Committee has the authority to determine
whether to expel a student for more than three days or permanently. The
endorsement of the Father Director is obligatory for the permanent expulsion.
Saturday's Work
Saturday's work is a mitigated sanction's form that is administered following a
discipline infringement, and at the same time, it pushes the student to
complete unfinished assignments.
Concerned students will be asked to come to school on Saturday mornings.
8 - Civil Responsibilities
8.1 The school's civil responsibility does not extend beyond the school
borders, except for bus riders. The A.I.S. civil responsibility ceases from the
moment the student leaves the bus on his way back home. For incidents occurring
outside the school, the Administration holds the right to take measures deemed
appropriate.
8.2 For a student to be able to communicate with persons from outside the
school regardless of their degree of acquaintance or relationship during
his/her presence in the institution, an authorization from the supervisor or
the department's head is necessary. To leave school before scheduled time,
students must submit a request to the Administration and get a prior
authorization before leaving the premises. In all cases, parents are informed
of their child's departure.
8.3 The school is responsible for students during outdoor activities and
excursions. Consequently, a memo related to this effect will be sent each time
to the parents of participating students. All excursions or organized outdoors
activities that are organized out of the school scheduled time, and which are
not preceded by a memo duly signed by the Director, are not placed under the
school's responsibility.
9 - Parents - School
correspondence
9.1 The student's diary serves as a correspondence means between the student's
parents and the school.
9.2 For inquiring about the studies and students' discipline, parents should
address their questions to the departments' heads. Parents wishing to convene
with teachers in order to discuss their child (ren)'s issues, should contact
the departments' heads. A conference will be arranged according to the calendar
that will be distributed at the beginning of the school year taking into
consideration the teachers' time availability.
9.3 The A.I.S. official website is: www.ais.edu.lb, and through this site
correspondence via email is provided: ais@ais.edu.lb.
9.4 At the end of each academic year, our magazine " AVIS " is
distributed to all our community members. This magazine is our " Yearbook
" where all the memorable events and our community's pictures are
documented.
10 - Special arrangements
10.1 Students should only carry books and publications adopted by the school.
Magazines, newspapers, radio-cassettes, CD players, etc… cannot be introduced
without a special authorization issued by the department's head. Breaching this
rule shall always be considered as a serious infringement to discipline and
might lead to expulsion.
10.2 All publications' distribution or selling and all posting in school cannot
take place without the Administration's prior authorization.
10.3 Students must not carry big amounts of money or valuable items. The school
is not responsible for any loss or theft. Parents are encouraged not to give
their child(ren) more money than necessary.
10.4 During sports' competitions or events, no student will be allowed to wear
the colors of another school or the signs of any Sports Club.
10.5 Parents who ask the school's teachers to give private tutoring to their chil(ren),
should inform the Administration in order to get prior authorization. Grade
levels' teachers are not permitted to teach their own students.
10.6 Students should not carry cell phones with them at school.
10.7 Students are forbidden from chewing gum at school. Chewing gum is
completely prohibited.
11 - Generalities
11.1 Confidentiality: Any records concerning your child (ren) from enrollment
forms to reports are classified as confidential and will only be accessible to
the school's Administration.
11.2 After school pick-up/authorization: Children who do not use the school
buses for transportation are allowed to leave the school only with their
parents, unless stated otherwise by their parents in a written note. No child
will be released to a person not authorized to pick him/her up by the parents
and the Director. It is the parents' responsibility to inform the school of any
changes in the names of authorized persons.
The staff in charge will request identification papers from any person other
than the parents to release the child(ren).
11.3 Holidays: The school abides by the public and religious holidays' calendar
set by the government. This calendar is included in the diary's first pages.
Health Policy: For hygienic and health purposes, the school established a
special policy that requires parents' adherence and participation.
1. An immunization record must be on file and reported to the Administration
whenever changes occur. At the beginning of the school year, a complete health
information form should be filled-in and sent back to the school's health
department by the parents.
2. Children will be observed upon arrival to school and will not be permitted
to stay if they show any signs of illness, these include: fever, eye infection
(red eye), nausea, diarrhea, head lice, skin problems, or any transmissible
disease such as chicken pox, measles etc.
3. A medical report is required after three consecutive days of absence or
following any infection.
4. If a child becomes ill at school, he/she is checked by our school nurse who
will contact the parents, should he/she need to be picked-up.
11.4 Medication: Medication can be given by the school's nurse if prescribed by
a doctor and signed by the parents with explicit instructions as to dosage and
time. If the doctor recommends a high dosage medication, a signed note from the
parent must accompany the medication. If the medication is in a liquid form,
please place the bottle in a plastic bag; label the bag with your child's name
and time/dosage of the medication. If your child needs medication for a
potentially serious condition such as asthma or diabetes, kindly notify the
department's head and discuss the matter with her.
11.5 Accidents: If minor accidents occur at school, the school nurse will
provide adequate treatment for children (cuts and scratches). If a more serious
accident takes place, parents are immediately notified and the school seeks
emergency care on sight. Accident reports are written by the school's Insurance
Company and a copy will be sent to parents. Emergencies are treated at the
"St. Georges Hospital" in Ajaltoun.
12 - Insurance - medical &
social service- School counselling
12.1 All students benefit, throughout the scholastic year, from an accidents'
insurance coverage which shall cover their stay at school as well as during all
outdoors activities organized by the institution.
12.2 School physicians examine each student at the beginning of the school
year. They can be consulted whenever needed. Parents may get in touch with them
concerning their child (ren) only by prior appointment.
12.3 Besides, a social and school counseling department receives students and
parents who would like to discuss any problem related to their studies within
office hours.
12.4 When registration formalities take place, each student must present a
medical certificate delivered by the family physician. This certificate will be
kept as a reference, in order to give the student, whenever needed, the
necessary care, and eventually, exempt him/her from sports activities.
13 - Teachers' committee
Elected for a one-year term, in accordance with the applied law, it represents
the whole teaching staff. The teacher's committee coordinates with the
Administration in order to achieve preset objectives while safekeeping
teachers' common interests. This committee could be consulted for issues
related to education, culture, morals, profession etc.
14 - Parents' committee
Elected for a three year term according to the applied law, it participates
actively in the social and cultural life of the establishment. This committee
is considered to be the spokesperson for parents before the Administration.
Furthermore, it constantly strives to consolidate the links bonding all the
educational community members.
15 - Class delegates
Role of Delegates
The delegate is the classmates' spokesperson, whether concerning collective
aspects of classlife or while scrutinizing particular cases.
